SHORT COURSE Integrating the Evidence on Gene-Disease Association: Methods and applications of HuGE systematic reviews Strangeways Research Laboratory, Cambridge 6-8 November 2006 The Human Genome Epidemiology Network, or HuGENet™ is a global collaboration of individuals and organizations committed to the assessment of the impact of human genome variation on population health and how genetic information can be used to improve health and prevent disease. Systematic reviews provide an important part of the output of HuGENet™. A HuGE association review summarizes evidence on the magnitudes of disease risks associated with gene variants alone and in combination with other risk factors. Reviews point to gaps in existing epidemiological and clinical knowledge, thus stimulating further research in these areas. The UK HuGENet™ Coordinating Centre is offering a 2.5-day short course on undertaking HuGE systematic reviews of genetic association. The course is based on the HuGENet™ HuGE Review Handbook (ed. Little and Higgins, 2006), available from www.hugenet.ca. For more details of the course and application form please see the attachment and www.hugenet.org.uk You should note that the closing date for applications is 20 October 2006. Please pass this email on to your networks and any other interested parties.
