Do you have clinical cases that pose ethical dilemmas?

Would you like to have a forum for discussing these issues in more detail?

Then Genethics club is for you!

First meeting was at Institute of medical Genetics, Cardiff, 10th June 2002 - see report.

The aims of the club are:

To help geneticists and genetic counsellors to develop their skills in identifying and resolving ethical issues

To analyse some current ethical issues and cases as presented by centres at the meetings and to look at their implications for practice more widely

To help centres to develop ways of ensuring that these considerations inform practice

Come along and raise current difficult cases and seek opinion on how to manage from the wider group and / or present past cases and teach others what you did and why.

Report from 1st meeting on 10th June 2002

The first genethics club meeting was 10th June in Cardiff (minutes available for those interested). It was a very interesting day with range of different clinical problems that have posed ethical dilemmas. also discussion of future meetings and venues. It was agreed that we should aim for 3 meetings per year, and most people wanted a more central location. We have therefore planned next one in London on 12th December (immediately after CGG meeting so people can combine) at Regent's College, Regent's Park, London.

Those interested in attending to contact me, Mike Parker or Angus Clarke, as before.

Anneke Lucassen

We would like to have an idea of the sorts of cases/ themes that people would like to discuss prior to meetings. Please email a short summary either of cases or of issues that you would like to discuss to [email protected] (or telephone Anneke on 02380 796841).

Organisers: Mike Parker, Anneke Lucassen, Angus Clarke
