| Job Description and Person Specification |
| The Regional Cytogenetics Unit is part of the Manchester Genetic Medicine department, which comprises Clinical Genetics, Molecular Genetics, the NGRL, Biochemical Genetics and the significant Genetics component of the Manchester Biomedical Research centre. This large department has recently moved to the new hospital build, in which Genetics now occupies the entire 6th floor and is the largest of its kind in Europe.
We are seeking a forward thinking Clinical Scientist to join our dedicated team and share our vision of integrating new science and technology to ensure we remain at the forefront of providing a high quality diagnostic service. In this exciting opportunity, you will have an opportunity to influence service delivery and help to develop NowGen training opportunities, in line with the regularly evolving requirements of diagnostic genetics. You will have huge scope for personal development including molecular cytogenetics, high resolution arrays, QF-PCR, coaching and training, and IT and quality management, leading to FRCPath, all with our full support.
Ideally, you will be a State Registered Clinical Scientist with a post-graduate certificate in clinical cytogenetics and be at Band 7. However, if you are nearing State Registration (and have an ACC post graduate certificate of competence in Clinical Cytogenetics) you are also encouraged to apply but the appointment will be at Band 6 until state registration is achieved. As a high calibre scientist, you will be committed to CPD and keen to embrace exciting scientific and diagnostic developments in your field. As someone with a flair for problem solving, you will enjoy the challenge of delivering a clinical cytogenetics service and you will be interested in developing techniques and technologies as well as training others.
