Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust Full time Genetic Counsellor (Principal) - based at Nottingham City Hospital managing a Derby caseload. Hours : 37.5 (Mon - Fri to meet demands of the service) Grade : 8a At a time of increasing referrals to the Regional Genetic Service we are seeking an experienced genetic counsellor to join our well-established patient focused service based at Nottingham City Hospital. The service covers Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire and much of the work is in the community so that a clean driving licence and a car are essential. This post is available due to the retirement of the post holder delivering a service for Derbyshire patients. Clinical work is undertaken both autonomously and in partnership with Nottingham based Clinical Geneticists who undertake regular outreach clinics in Derby. The post holder will provide an expert local resource to other health practitioners through formal and informal education and networking. You will have at least 4 years experience as a Genetic Counsellor with clinical experience across the breadth of inherited disease. You will have developed specialist knowledge and skills in an area of genetic practice, eg. Cancer predisposition; prenatal diagnosis; cardiac genetics. If not yet registered you should be in position to apply within the first year by fulfilling the AGNC Registration requirements (this requires an MSc in Genetic Counselling or a graduate clinical qualification and experience in an associated field). You will demonstrate excellent counselling skills and a clear insight into the psychosocial impacts of the disorders encountered, with appropriate strategies to manage them. You will show evidence of effective team and autonomous working and be able to undertake lead roles in aspects of the service.
