Job Title Genetic Counsellor   Location Gloucester   Closing Date for Applications 16/01/2009   Job Description and Person Specification Genetic Counsellor University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust Division of Women’s and Children’s Services Main site: Gloucester Royal Hospital Agenda for Change Band 7 WTE 0.8 (30 hours) We are seeking a second genetic counsellor to be based in Gloucester. The service is managed by University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust from St Michaels Hospital in Bristol. The post holder will provide genetic counselling for a broad range of hereditary conditions to a wide variety of patients and in particular those with a family history of cancer. The post requires the applicant to be a car driver and to be willing to undertake phlebotomy. The unit requires the post holder to be on site on Fridays. Grade 7 applicants must meet the Genetic Counsellor Registration Board (GCRB) entry level criteria for the genetic counselling profession and will have gained additional experience in a regional genetics centre. (You need not be registered yet). See www.agnc.co.uk. The successful candidate will be expected to work towards gaining registration as a Genetic Counsellor. However, if you have not gained the additional experience described above we will consider applications from candidates who have either graduated with an MSc in Genetic Counselling or have all of the following - a degree, current professional registration as stipulated in the GCRB entry level criteria (e.g. Nurse, Midwife, Health Visitor) and experience of caseload management.
