Job Description and Person Specification
We are seeking to recruit a clinical cytogeneticist to join our friendly and energetic team in Sheffield. The post involves working in all areas of the service: prenatal, postnatal and oncology and there is an active programme of training and rotation for CPD to ensure that skill levels are attained and maintained across the service. A registered scientist will take on some supervisory, managerial or R&D; role in the department, which has a very wide range of services, including a strong molecular pathology element. There is also considerable opportunity to work with new technologies such as microarray and MLPA, the application of automation including automated FISH and karyotype analysis and in the development of new services. Applications will also be considered from scientists who are in the second part of their training programme leading to registration and although this is an opportunity for a full time position, applicants wishing to work as job share or part-time will also be considered. The post is for two years in the first instance. The scientist will be based in the fully CPA accredited purpose-built Cytogenetics department within Sheffield Children’s Hospital, situated close to the University and the vibrant city centre. Sheffield is also renowned for its proximity to the Peak District and all the recreational activities associated with a major National Park.
