Job Description and Person Specification
Applications are invited from candidates with a degree in an appropriate biological science and ideally experience of working in a diagnostic CPA-accredited laboratory. The post holder will provide the technical support required to maintain an efficient and high quality molecular genetic diagnostic service. The laboratory provides a regional clinical molecular genetics service (1) for the population of North East Thames including patients attending Great Ormond Street Hospital and an international service for metabolic, craniofacial, and primary immune deficiency disorders. The laboratory also has a strong interest deafness, familial hypercholesterolaemia and non invasive prenatal diagnosis. Close links are maintained with colleagues in Pathology and with the Institute of Child Health. The fully accredited laboratory that is also a full member of the UK genetic testing network has an establishment of around 28 staff across all grades and works closely with the other London regional and neurogenetic centres to co-ordinate strategic developments and staff training as part of the South East of England Genetics network. This network has recently benefited from considerable investment under the white paper initiative. The laboratory is situated in Bloomsbury, Central London, and a short walk from both Euston and Kings Cross stations and within easy access of the West End.
